The St. Luke Community Connection Series Presents
Dr. B's Groove
St. Luke Church, 568 Montgomery Ave, Bryn Mawr, PA presented the second in its 2024 series of "Community Connection" events on Sunday evening, June 30th with a performance by funk/jazz ensemble, Mr. B’s Groove, led by Philadelphia’s own Marcell Bellinger.
Formed in 2013, Dr. B’s Groove is an eight-piece instrumental R&B group that skillfully, creates a powerful blend of funk and jazz. Members include Red Thunder (Trombone), The Barron. (Tenor), T Bone (Alto), Two Soxx (Trumpet/Flugelhorn), The Professor (Bass), El Gato (Drums), Greg K. (Guitar) and Marcell B. (Trumpet/Flugelhorn, piano, compositions).

Originally a seven-piece funk styled band, based on Temple University’s Philadelphia campus—the ensemble was a vehicle for Temple Music professor, Marcel Bellinger, to give voice to his own compositions. It quickly grew to become a tight, versatile, musical unit, and through gigs at local clubs in Philadelphia, the band found unanimous acclaim. As word spread of their impressive, energetic performances, a dedicated following of funk and jazz enthusiasts grew. Compositionally solid, musically inspiring, and “a blast” to experience live, the band has been recruited by schools in and around the Philadelphia area to perform at various events that have earned them even a broader following.
